Ratcatcher 2 might be known for catching rats but she has also captured the hearts of people who watched The Suicide Squad. After all, Cleo Cazo had a tragic backstory and an enchanting personality that endeared her to audiences.
But could the sweet character take on a dark turn in the future? Daniela Melchior has just admitted that she wants Ratcatcher 2 to be established as a real supervillain in the DCEU.
In The Suicide Squad, it was established early on that Ratcatcher 2 isn't like the other members of Task Force X. Unlike her companions, Cleo was brought to Belle Reve for a non-violent crime and she hasn't killed anyone. Well, at least, not yet.
Melchior recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight along with The Suicide Squad co-star Idris Elba and she admitted that she is interested in seeing Cleo's relationship with her father being explored further. However, Melchior also stated that she is hoping to see the darker side of Ratcatcher 2 in the future.
"I would love, also, to see Ratcatcher learning from, I don't know, why not Bloodsport? How to shoot a gun, how to fight with someone, I would love to see her debut as a supervillain for real," Melchior said.
It's a strange idea considering that The Suicide Squad director James Gunn had referred to Ratcatcher 2 as "the heart of the movie" and the character just appears to be inherently good. Still, it would be interesting to see what would push Cleo to kill a person and change her views on life.
Ratcatcher also turned out to have an unexpected connection to The Suicide Squad's most mysterious cast member. Although there were several guesses at Taika Waititi's role in the film, it has been revealed that he is actually playing the original Ratcatcher and Cleo's father.
The Suicide Squad is now screening in theaters and on HBO Max.
