Back in 2005, we got to see an awesome adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. However, it only adapted the first of Douglas Adams' book series. Still, Zooey Deschanel believes that the film deserved several sequels. In addition to that, the New Girl star spoke about how much she enjoyed playing Tricia McMillan aka Trillian in the movie.
Garth Jennings' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was well received by Douglas Adams fans who loved how the film paid tribute to the author. At first, people were expecting the movie to be the first of many adaptations of Adams' books. However, there were no further updates after the film's release.
Not surprisingly, Zooey Deschanel looks back fondly at her time working on the movie. While speaking to The Guardian, Deschanel admitted that she liked the idea of Trillian having alien origins, a change that was originally planned for the movie but was ultimately deleted.
"I did [enjoy starring in the movie], but the character was supposed to be part-alien and for some reason, they cut that out. As an actor, I was heartbroken, but I loved the movie and the people," Deschanel said. She also pointed out that Adams didn't get to see the film but is certain that he would have loved it.
"Douglas Adams passed away before his time, which was so sad. He never saw the finished movie, but people from his camp made sure it stayed true to his vision," Deschanel said before adding, "I would have loved to have made more."
Douglas Adams was involved in the film before his passing in 2001. Although he didn't get to see the movie, there is little doubt that Adams would have enjoyed it.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy also starred Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def, Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, John Malkovich, and Allan Rickman as Marvin the Android.
