Zoe Saldana Finally Speaks Out About James Gunn Being Rehired As Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Director

It has been a few weeks yet people are still celebrating James Gunn's triumphant return as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Not surprisingly, fans are celebrating the filmmaker's reinstatement and Zoe Saldana has finally spoken up about the news.

Saldana recently spoke to ET Online about her new film Missing Link. However, the Avengers: Infinity War star also addressed Gunn's reinstatement and she's certainly pleased to have the director back on GOTG V3.

"I'm proud of him. I'm happy that he's coming back," Saldana said. "I'm so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important."

Saldana has worked with Gunn since the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. She was one of the stars who rallied behind the director after Gunn was fired in July 2018 after his old offensive tweets resurfaced. Needless to say, we're looking forward to seeing Saldana return as Gamora in Vol. 3 although the character has been killed off in Infinity War.

It may take a while before Saldana and Gunn are reunited to work on the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. After all, Gunn still needs to work on Suicide Squad 2, which he is writing and directing. Production for Vol. 3 will begin once the filmmaker is done with the DC Extended Universe flick.

It's still unclear if Saldana will reprise her role as Gamora in Avengers: Endgame. Nevertheless, fans are hoping that the movie will confirm that her character will be resurrected so she can reunite with her fellow Guardians in Vol. 3.

Suicide Squad 2 will begin production in late 2019 and is scheduled to premiere on August 6, 2021. This means Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could be set for a 2022 release.
