Marvel Officially Lists James Gunn As Executive Producer Of Avengers: Endgame

It's only been a few weeks since Disney revealed that it had decided to rehire director James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but now Marvel has just revealed the filmmaker as one of the executive producers of Avengers: Endgame.

Walt Disney Studios just made a new update to their credits list for Endgame (via ComicBook.com) and it looks like Gunn is serving as Executive Producer to the second installment in Joe and Anthony Russo's two-part Avengers movie. The executive producer role has most likely been given to Gunn so that he can reprise his role as shepherd to the Guardians of the Galaxy in the film.

Last year, fans were quite surprised when Gunn had been fired from his place as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The director had been axed after an alt-right extremist dredged up some of Gunn's old but insensitive and inappropriate tweets made fourteen years in the past. While the director had already apologized for the tweets years before the smear campaign brought them back to light, Disney decided to steer clear of the controversy by firing Gunn. The move created even more controversy, with many fans and friends rallying around the filmmaker.

Close to a year or so after the incident, Disney revealed that it had brought back Gunn to the fold. While the director has been reinstated as director of GOTG 3 and as executive producer of Endgame, we still have to see whether Gunn will be given back his duties as the builder of the Marvel Cosmic Universe.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
