Kravitz is the fifth actress to portray the Catwoman role after Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns, Halle Berry in a solo film, and Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. Catwoman is such an iconic character throughout the years from the DC universe because of its playful and naughty vibes yet absolutely dangerous feminine character that always plays with the Batman.

The Batman is a reboot of the DC film’s franchise and follows Bruce Wayne’s second year of solving crimes in Gotham City. He investigates a web of corruption tied to his family and searches for the cryptic serial killer known as The Riddler. Alongside Kravitz, Robert Pattinson will be the lead star as The Batman and he will be joined by an ensemble cast, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, and Paul Dano as The Riddler. Matt Reeves is the writer and director for the new franchise of the Batman film.

During an interview with Screenrant, Kravitz has opened up about her excitement in playing Selina Kyle and portraying the fierce antiheroine Catwoman. Kravitz explained,

"I mean, the character is so well developed in the script, and I was really excited to explore her backstory and where she comes from, and the process that she goes through in terms of becoming closer to what will be Catwoman. But it was really lovely to be able to play Selina and not have to jump straight to Catwoman. I think with these iconic characters that we all love so much, it can be overwhelming in terms of, 'Okay, now here's Catwoman' And I have this wonderful opportunity to slowly develop her and the audience gets to come on that journey with me. But you know, obviously learning all the combat and the way she moves and finding ways to hint at who she will become, it was a really fun process."

Though different portrayals of the Catwoman received different reviews from the public, like Pfeiffer’s perfect chemistry with Michael Keaton in Batman Returns, and fans didn’t like the fact that Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises didn’t have enough screen time, we can see how Matt Reeves and Kravitz strategy to portray the Catwoman role. Whether they will explore her origins and persona behind the mask as Selina, or just develop the Catwoman's alter ego.

The Batman is only a month away and will be available in theaters on March 4, 2022.
