Zack Snyder Wants To Release Sucker Punch Director's Cut

It's no secret that Zack Snyder's Justice League is one of the social media's awesome success stories. Although it all started with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, Warner Bros. eventually relented and gave Snyder's director's cut the release it needed. But could this be replicated for another Snyder's film? The filmmaker has just admitted that he wants to release the director's cut of Sucker Punch.

Sucker Punch was released back in 2011 and Snyder has been very vocal about how the theatrical cut wasn't his original vision for the film. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the filmmaker admitted that it was the first time he was asked to alter a movie he was working on.

"[Sucker Punch] was the first time where I really faced, like, a true radical restructuring of the film for it to be more commercial," Snyder said. He then revealed that there is a longer version of the project that embodies his true vision.

"There is a director's cut of that movie that has yet to be released. I'll say that out loud," Snyder stated.

There's a good reason why Sucker Punch didn't do so well in the box office. The film was criticized for the sexualized depiction of the female characters. However, Snyder was quick to point out that he was actually criticizing sexism in the film.

"It's a protest movie in a lot of ways. It's a movie about genre," Snyder stated. "I was asked at the time 'Why did you dress the girls like that?' and I'd always go 'I didn't dress them like that, you did.' I always saw it as an indictment of, in some ways, popular culture. I think at the time I was criticized for it being the opposite, like, some sort of sexist rant. It was fun to make and I still love it to this day."

For now, it is unclear if we'll be getting the Sucker Punch director's cut. Perhaps it's time to start trending another hashtag.
