Zack Snyder Talks Jared Leto’s ‘World Weary’ Joker in His Justice League

While it was expected that main Justice League stars like Ben Affleck and Ray Fisher would be brought back for Zack Snyder's Justice League, the return nobody expected was Jared Leto reprising his Joker from Suicide Squad. We don't have any official details of his character for now, but Snyder does hype up Leto's return as the Clown Prince of Crime.

Talking to Grace Randolph's Beyond the Trailer, Snyder shares:

"It is true… I wanted to, of course, honor what had been created with [Joker] because I thought it was really cool… Some water has gone under the proverbial bridge, between when last we saw Joker and this sort of appearance and so…he's a road weary Joker."

While we don't have any official details of Leto's involvement, it's speculated that he will have something to do with the ‘Knightmare' world, and it will be revealed that Joker now works with Batman in the story. This is just speculation for now, but it would be really interesting to see what Leto originally planned for his Joker. Snyder continues:

"It was fun having a segment of the band together for this little vignette, and you know, working with Jared Leto was really amazing, his attention to detail and he really cares a lot about being awesome and so, you know, it was fun and everyone did an amazing level, and even trying to shoot in [the middle of a medical emergency] is you know is a bit of a deal, but everyone brought huge A-game and really wanted to be cool and I couldn't be happier with what those guys did and it's just really cool and good fun…it's really the only thing that I've added outside of the, you know, outside of the original photography."

Though Leto's performance as Joker in Suicide Squad was said to be the worst, a lot of people—even director David Ayer—said that this wasn't what they were originally intending, and the studio had decided to botch Leto's performance when they made Trailer Park re-edit the film.

Hopefully Leto's return in the film will get people excited to #ReleaseTheAyerCut on HBO Max as well. No release date has been announced, but Zack Snyder's Justice League comes out on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
