Zack Snyder Reveals Shocking Original Plan for Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and fans instantly loved her take on the iconic DC hero. Since then, we've followed her heroic journey throughout the DCEU as she became one of the cornerstone characters in the franchise.

However, as it turns out, her origin in the DCEU was supposedly different than what we ended up seeing on the screen as revealed by Zack Snyder during his appearance at the SnyderCon event (via The Direct).

The director shared that he was planning for Diana Prince to be a Kryptonian just like Superman and her father Zeus originated in Krypton instead of being an ancient God.

"It's this whole thing with Ares and Zeus... [We considered how] Zeus could possibly be a Kryptonian. So, that Wonder Woman's powers...you can sort of see where that's going," Snyder said.

"Because the whole thing of whether or not magic or gods... There's a version of where you're like, 'That's cool, I guess.' But then there's also more the scientific aspect. You have the pathology built up of like, 'Where do gods come from? What is that about?' We had played around with that quite a bit."

John DesJardin, who served as the VFX supervisor on Snyder's DC movies, also revealed that Zeus' son Ares was supposed to be the one who crash-landed the Kryptonian scout ship as seen in Man of Steel.

"And Ares was the one who caused the scout ship to crash to be in the ice... He killed his crew," he added.

In the end, Warner Bros. rejected the idea. As we all know now, Wonder Woman's origin in the DCEU was closer to the comics, which is something that fans easily approve of the moment we saw her backstory in her solo movie.

It is still an interesting idea nevertheless and there is no doubt that it would have changed the character's dynamic with Superman. While we will never see that concept come to life, it could still be explored through an Elseworlds type of story.
