Zack Snyder's next film project finally has a release date! The beloved director along with streaming giant Netflix confirmed on social media that the space epic Rebel Moon is finally dropping in December after years of being in development.
According to a synopsis released by Netflix, the anticipated film is centered on "a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. The desperate civilians dispatch Kora, a young woman who has a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the regent."
Some of you may not be aware but Rebel Moon was originally meant to be a Star Wars project that Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm way back when. Obviously, it was turned down by the production company but the former DC director would later redevelop the film to become a completely different story that still draws massive inspiration from the science fiction property.
Now, some fans are claiming that Star Wars' decades-long reign is coming to an end thanks to Rebel Moon. On Twitter, some fans are saying that the upcoming film is already better than anything Star Wars has put out. Well, there's a hot take for ya.

While comparisons between the two are inevitable, I'm pretty sure Zack isn't thinking about competing with Star Wars and if anything, Rebel Moon is a homage to a galaxy far, far away. Now, on the subject of his film surpassing Star Wars' success, we obviously still have a long way to go but giving credit where credit is due, Rebel Moon looks very promising.
Starring Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, and more, Rebel Moon is hitting Netflix on December 22, 2023.
