James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe takeover has been the talk of the geek community and despite the fact that they've yet to unveil their long-term plans for the franchise, the fan reception has been quite divided. While some are feeling incredibly enthusiastic about what the duo has in store, others have already given up on the whole DCU restructuring, especially after Henry Cavill was officially let go as the franchise's Superman.

Uncertainty is in the air as reports claim that most of the DCU's original cast members except for The Suicide Squad and Jason Momoa are being booted out of the franchise. The list reportedly includes Shazam! actor Zachary Levi who is set to mark his second outing as the "Earth's Mightiest Mortal" in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

This week, Levi finally put an end to all the hearsay and pretty much expressed his confidence that he will remain in the franchise under Gunn and Safran's new regime. However, he did admit that he hasn't spoken to the DC Studios co-heads and this led many to believe that he isn't actually part of their plans.

Instead of gaining support from the fandom, Zachary faced mockery on Twitter for continuously insisting that he won't be getting recast as Shazam. Well, that's quite harsh. Check out some of the reactions here:

The first Shazam! movie may not have been a commercial success but it's easily one of the better films the old DC/WB regime was able to craft. Personally, I'd be sad to see Levi go because he fits the role to a tee. I just hope he's not setting himself up for disappointment.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for theatrical release on March 17, 2023.
