Do you still have your old Harry Potter books with Joanne Rowling on the cover instead of J.K. Rowling? If you still do, good for you!
Owners of very old Harry Potter books could now sell their copies for as much as $55,000 (assuming some fans would actually want to sell their copies). But before you start celebrating, there are a few factors to consider first.
According to the British branch of AbeBooks (h/t The Independent), online marketplace (for used, rare, and out of print books), extremely rare first Harry Potter editions can be sold at a hefty price under these guidelines.
In a nutshell, the set of instructions say that qualified books are those of signed copies, U.S. first editions, and rare printing where "Joanne" is written on the copyright page instead of “J.K.” Another dead giveaway of a rare Harry Potter book is Rowling’s signature, which became rare overtime as she got more famous.
But of course, it’s expected that the first copies of the very first book are the ones that earned the spotlight.
Books to look out for:
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
The very first edition of 500 copies of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone are now worth between $40,000 and $56,000.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (US title)
First printings can be worth up to $6,500.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
First edition first printings are worth up to $9,000.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Signed mint copies are worth up to a whopping $12,000.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
