Who would've thought that young Rhaenyra Targaryen would return in the second season?

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 3 titled The Burning Mill shows Daemon arriving at the seemingly haunted Harrenhal castellan and hearing a familiar voice singing voice echoing in the castle halls.

Upon following the melody right into the room, he meets a young Rhaenyra (played by Milly Alcock) sewing the severed head of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen back onto his body.

The young Rhaenyra turns to Daemon as she says, "Always coming and going, aren't you? And I have to clean up afterward." which could explain that even the adult Rhaenyra has continued to experience this disappointing revelation.

But then again, fans wonder why we see Milly Alcock's version, the younger Rhaenyra in Daemon's dream, not the present one he has for his wife, Emma D'Arcy's Rhaenyra. The answer may be disturbing.

As some fans surmised, this may be his subconscious attempting to bring him to a time when things were simpler between them, or in a more disturbing aspect, a time when Rhaenyra was still much more innocent before he procured her for his wife.

Considering how Rhaenyra used to put Daemon on a pedestal, this completely contrasts with the adult Rhaenyra who sees him in a different light.

It is also possible that deep down, he feels guilty, which is rare for him to acknowledge, hence, why the dream included the image of the young Rhaenyra sewing the Prince's head back onto his body after the Blood and Cheese incident.

"This place represents what's in his soul right now," House of the Dragon season 2 episode 3 director Geeta Vasant Patel recently explained, "As Daemon's going from corridor to corridor, it's a metaphor for him thinking, 'I don't know where I am in my life. I'm actually scared for the first time and I'm angry.'"
