Young Morpheus Reveal Gets Mixed Reactions from Matrix Fans

The first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections is finally here and fans have a lot to say about the new revelations. For instance, people are loving Carrie-Anne Moss's return as Trinity and the introduction of Jessica Henwick's blue-haired fighter. However, fans also mixed reactions to the young Morpheus played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

People knew about the Matrix Resurrections trailer being dropped today, thanks to the interactive teaser on the film's official website. Although the teaser already showed a glimpse of Abdul-Mateen's character, the trailer confirms he is playing the new Morpheus. He even goes up against Keanu Reeves' Neo in a redo of the iconic fight scene in the first movie.

Some people are loving the debut of young Morpheus and strongly believe that Abdul-Mateen will give justice to the role.

Interestingly, there are also fans who feel that Morpheus should only be played by Laurence Fishburne.

Although people have differing opinions about young Morpheus, it's clear that the character will play a major role in the upcoming sequel. In addition to that, it looks like Abdul-Mateen will truly own the role and we can't wait to see more of him in action later this year.

The Matrix Resurrections is directed by Lana Wachowski and also stars Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, and Ellen Hollman. The film is scheduled to screen in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
