You Can No Longer Use Dice To Keep Track of Life at Competitive MTG Events

If you're joining a Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix or any other competitive REL (Rules Enforcement Levels) event, you better have a pen or paper (or Boogie Board) to keep track of your life, because from now on, you will no longer be able to use dice for that purpose.

In today's Magicjudge.org's Rivals of Ixalan policy update, it was announced that dice are now disallowed in competitive and professional REL events because it's too easy for them to be accidentally knocked over or intentionally manipulated. You can use electronic life trackers and pen and paper, of course.

This makes sense. I've seen players accidentally knock down dice for life totals. Of course, you can still use dice in casual events and Friday Night Magic.

I'll keep using my Boogie Board to save paper. Ali Aintrazi made me discover that. What will you use to keep track of life in competitive events?

Rivals of Ixalan will launch worldwide this Friday. Unstable is now available.
