Yoo Ah In Embroiled in Drug Use Allegation; Actor’s Movie Appearances Might Be Affected

Famed South Korean actor Yoo Ah In is currently under investigation due to the alleged illegal use of propofol, an anaesthetic drug.

Naver News cited TV Chosun’s report regarding a top male Korean movie star in his 30s being investigated by police due to his alleged use of illegal drugs. The report immediately spread to several Korean online communities, and the public assumed it might be Yoo Ah In.


Soon after the news went viral, it was confirmed that the actor in question was indeed the #Alive actor.

Yoo Ah In Under Investigation for Alleged Drug Use

Actor Yoo Ah In is currently being investigated for his alleged illegal use of propofol, a sleep-inducing drug.

According to The Korea Times, the 36-year-old actor has been habitually using the drug for non-medical purposes. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said that he has been purchasing the drugs “too frequently,” leading it to request a police investigation.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has since questioned him on Feb. 6. The National Forensic Service for drug testing also received samples of his hair for drug testing.

The results are yet to be released, but the authorities have already imposed an overseas travel ban on Yoo Ah In amid the drug use investigation.

Yoo Ah In’s management company, United Artists Agency, released a statement Wednesday confirming the probe.

"Yoo has been faithfully cooperating with the investigation and will explain in detail about the problematic issues," the agency said.

Due to the investigation, his appearance on Netflix’s The Match alongside Lee Byung Hoon is expected to be affected if the results return positive. Meanwhile, his other movies, Goodbye Earth and Hi.5, are yet to release a decision as they are still waiting for the investigation’s result.s

Fans immediately expressed their opinion on theqoo regarding the damaging reports, with most of them claiming they were not surprised by it.
