Yellowjackets Season 2 was swiftly picked up by Showtime, as fans continue to discover the series' wonderfully terrifying pleasures.

It has become one of the year's most talked-about shows, and fans were dreading the wait between seasons because many mysteries remained unexplained. It appears like the wait will not be too long.

Here's all we know about Yellowjackets Season 2.

Is Yellowjackets Season 2 Officially Confirmed?

Yes! Yellowjackets was officially renewed for a second season in mid-December, barely about halfway through its first season. The show had already begun to gain traction among fans and reviewers, and its popularity has only expanded in the weeks since due to word of mouth.

Yellowjackets has been an unadulterated sensation for Showtime,” Showtime entertainment president Gary Levine said.

Levine told Vulture that Season 2 of Yellowjackets will most likely release in 2022. Not a precise date was given, but the network expects the show would continue on an annual cycle, with one season produced each year.

The show's momentum and committed audience, according to Levine, are factors for fast-tracking the show:

We are working towards a premiere at the end of 2022. We’d love to stay on an annual cycle. I think our audiences deserve that, and I also think that when you have a show that has this kind of a momentum, you don’t want to let it dissolve.

What Will Yellowjackets Season 2 be About?

It's safe to assume that the show will continue to follow both timelines, in 1996 with the Yellowjackets trapped in the woods, and in the present with our survivors further down the line.

We know the team (along with Travis, Coach Ben, and Javi) was in the woods for 19 months, and we've just scratched the surface of their twisted saga. We witnessed the opening sequence of Season 1 with a person in a nightgown being captured (and presumably killed) in a trap and eventually eaten by the people in furs commanded by the antler queen. We also learned early on that the psychopath Misty is one of those people dressed in furs.

The mystery behind this nightgown person was not resolved in the Season 1 conclusion. The beginnings of whatever cult worshipping thing was happening out in the woods, though, were clearly visible: Lottie, who wore her Antler crown for (presumably) the first time last week, with Van and Misty just behind her. This will undoubtedly continue in Season 2.

For Yellowjackets Season 2, Season 1's finale left a lot of questions, and the idea that answers will be available within a calendar year may make the wait a little easier.
