Yellowjackets Season 2 will feature even more brutal violence than Season 1, according to Sophie Nélisse, who plays a young Shauna Shipman in the horror drama.

Although the Emmy-nominated series is no stranger to violent representations of blood and gore, Nélisse warns that things will get even messier for the girls.

Yellowjackets Season 2 Had Sophie Nélisse ‘Freaking Out’

Nélisse revealed that Yellowjackets Season 2 would be much more vicious than the first in an interview with Variety. The most intense episode of the season, according to her, is Episode 6, which serves as a sort of climactic payoff for the first half of the season.

“When I read this specific episode, I remember being terrified. Episode 6 — it gets very intense,” she revealed. “I read it, and I was like, very excited, and then immediately sobbed. I was talking to my psychologist, and I was like, ‘I can’t do it, I’m not good enough for this,’ and I was freaking out.”

“... and [the cast] all sat and looked at each other, and we were like ‘What the f*** are we doing. Like, literally, what the f*** are we doing,'” the actress continued. “You’ll look at it, and you’ll understand, but I don’t think you’ve ever seen such a scene in TV before.”

Yellowjackets Season 2 Might Shed Light On Show’s Cannibalistic Themes

The audience is aware that the future of the group of girls stranded in the wilderness will involve cannibalism, and Nélisse's confirmation of a more graphic Yellowjackets Season 2 provides a clue to these developments. How some of the girls survived the winter in the woods by pursuing and eating other females was already described in Season 1 Episode 1.

The Season 1 finale of the show ended just as the forest was entering its first winter, so viewers haven't seen this in great detail thus far. It looks that viewers will see cannibalism for the first time during Yellowjackets Season 2 based on what spectators know about the history of the team's survival.

Yellowjackets Season 2 Release Date

Yellowjackets Season 2 production began in August 2022, and showrunner and co-creator Ashley Lyle recently tweeted that they are still "deep in production." Earlier this year, she stated that filming would end in February, with an early 2023 release date being the most optimistic forecast.

According to The Wrap, the team hoped to retain the same release schedule as Season 1 with a November launch, but that wasn't going to be possible.

"Nobody wanted to get back on the air quickly more than we did," Lyle said. "But we really rolled directly from finishing up Season 1 into Season 2. It's a deeply serialized story, and we wanted to make sure we didn't rush it, and that we got it right. And so this was the earliest we could accomplish that."
