There's no denying that Taron Egerton is a bonafide fan favorite to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the desire from the fandom to see him get cast as Logan in the upcoming X-Men reboot remains strong. Earlier this month, the 32-year-old Welsh actor reignited speculation when he confirmed during an interview that he's been keeping in touch with Marvel Studios.

But what a lot of fans probably don't know is that he came real close to becoming part of the X-Men franchise, long before Disney's monumental acquisition of the Fox property. Turns out, Egerton was among the frontrunners to play Scott Summers aka Cyclops in the X-Men prequels which ran from 2011 to 2019.

However, Egerton would ultimately reject the offer and he had a specific reason for declining it. Appearing on SiriusXM's Sway in the Morning, the Kingsman star said that he simply didn't want to play a character whose eyes were covered.

He reveals: "I don't mind saying it: That was a real thing, that was a real conversation. I've never said this, actually. To be honest, the reason that conversation never went anywhere further is because I didn't want to play a character for a potential series of movies where you don't see my eyes."

As it stands, we still don't know if Taron will in fact end up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but if he does, it's already safe to say that he won't be playing Cyclops. Of course, we all know for a fact that Marvel Studios, most especially Kevin Feige listens to the fandom so the idea of him playing Wolverine in Earth-616 doesn't sound too farfetched.

Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is currently in development.
