X-Men Star James McAvoy Wants to Play The Riddler

Could James McAvoy's next comic book stint bring him to DC? The X-Men star recently expressed his interest to play the famous Batman supervillain The Riddler.

The actor made the revelation during an Instagram Livestream when he was asked by a fan about which DC Comics character he would like to bring to life.

"The Riddler? I always liked him when I was growing up. That would be cool," McAvoy answered, after giving himself a few seconds to think. "I've always thought DC does really good bad guys," he went on to say.

At the moment, Warner Bros. Pictures hasn't made any concrete plans to bring The Riddler to the big screen. While The Batman could be a way to bring the character to the fold, the studio seems to have different plans.

Whether he will ever join the DC Comics Extended Universe remains to be seen. It is not impossible, though, since The Riddler is a mega-popular character. Not only that, he has appeared in films and TV shows too, may it be live-action or animated.

The Riddler currently appears as a major villain in the Fox series Gotham. As far as big screen adaptations, the character has been portrayed by Frank Gorshin and Jim Carrey.

The villain was supposed to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice along with Joker, but the idea was scrapped. Leonardo Dicaprio and Johnny Depp were reportedly being considered for the role in The Dark Knight Rises before Bane was chosen as the main antagonist.

McAvoy is not new to the geek universe. He plays the role of Charles Xavier aka Professor X. He made his debut as the iconic character in X-Men: First Class. He has since played the character two times, not counting his brief cameo in Deadpool 2 and the upcoming X-Men film Dark Phoenix.

Do you think McAvoy will make a good The Riddler?
