Wonder Woman 1984 Producer Explains 7-Month Delay

Wonder Woman is one of the few hits that the DCEU currently has in its roster, so you can imagine the hype when it comes to the sequel. The movie was originally set to come out November of this year, but it was delayed to June of 2020; apparently, for good reason.

Talking to Collider, producer Charles Roven explains the November release date was already rushing the movie, he says:

"We always wanted the date that we are on right now. The studio felt that until their slate for the year before came together—and they had an amazing end of 2018—that they needed to have a big what I call aircraft carrier, a ‘tentpole', in [2019]. We had a very rushed pre-production because Patty also did the TNT show and we had a very rushed post-production schedule in order to make the date that we were on, which was November 1, 2019. We were doing it because the studio said they really needed it, and then at a certain point they came to us and they said, ‘You know what, you guys are right. Let's go back to the month that you guys released Wonder Woman 1 in, and take the extra time."

Though a delay to June may be a long wait, I'm sure fans would rather see the film polished to perfection—as compared to a rushed product that the film would have been if it came out in November.

Admittedly, the absence of Wonder Woman 2's release this year does leave the DCEU a very thin slate for 2019. After the release of Shazam! next month, the only movie we have left would be Todd Phillips' Joker which comes out in October. On the bright side, Birds of Prey does come out very early next year with a release set in February.

The DCEU is slowly coming back to form, and a lot of people can't wait to see the universe catch up to MCU standards.
