Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman On The Real Reason Why Deadpool Was Created

Wolverine and Deadpool have always had a pretty strong connection to each other in Marvel comics. Sure, there are times that the two bicker and try slashing each other's throats, but they've always had each other's backs too.

Fans have been hoping to see this kind of friendship on the big screen, however, after hanging up his claws after the release of Logan, Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman refused every offer that Ryan Reynolds made to star in a future Deadpool movie. Still, that doesn't mean that Jackman doesn't know how important the Deadpool and Wolvie tandem is. In fact, the actor even knows why Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld wrote the Merc with a Mouth in the first place.

Appearing at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con, Jackman went up on stage to reveal the true origin of Deadpool.

"Rob Liefeld, who created Deadpool is here tonight. It's weird he said I've never liked Ryan but I've always liked you, I'm kidding. But he did tell me and post this, you can post this. Rob Liefeld, who created Deadpool in the comic books said the only reason I did it was because I wanted to draw Wolverine," the actor said.

It's a pretty fun reveal, one that adds more color to the playful relationship that Jackman has with Reynolds (and that Wolverine has with Deadpool).

Right now we're not quite sure what the future has in store for Deadpool with the movie rights under Disney, but we're hoping the Merc with a Mouth finds his own place in the Marvel Cinematic Univesre soon enough.
