Last month, Disney announced that it was preparing a new string of Marvel series centered on Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and other Marvel superheroes who haven't been able to receive their own standalone movies from Marvel Studios.
Now, according to a new report by Variety, Marvel is currently working on a limited series that's going to put the spotlight on Captain America's (Chris Evans) two closest friends, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and The Winter Soldier, Bucky (Sebastian Stan). Marvel is developing the series for Disney's upcoming streaming service, adding the show along to the spinoffs featuring Loki and Scarlet Witch with each series expected to run with up to six to eight episodes.
Empire scribe Malcolm Spellman has been tapped to write the series. Making an independent report to confirm the news, Slashfilm notes that Mackie and Stan have long since discussed teaming up together for their own project after Avengers 4 and according to the site it looks like fans might be able to expect a Midnight Run-kind of tone from the Marvel stars' upcoming series.
Marvel, however, has yet to comment on Stan and Mackie's upcoming series. Of course, a classic buddy comedy series doesn't sound too far off considering that the nature of the relationship between Falcon and Bucky in Civil War and Infinity War.
Hopefully, these upcoming Marvel series being developed for Disney is going to kick off. There's been a lot of disappointment these past few weeks. Not only has Netflix canceled its Iron Fist series, but it's also decided to ax Luke Cage as well. Marvel fans need a bit of respite after all this bad news.
Disney's streaming service is set to launch sometime 2019.
