Winston Duke Wants M'Baku to be the Black Panther 2 Villain

Black Panther was a huge success in the box-office and there's surely some exciting stuff to come in the sequel. That said, the second film is still two years away, but fans are curious to know which character would be set as the villain. If it were up to actor Winston Duke, he knows exactly who it should be.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Duke was asked about who he'd want the villain to be in the sequel. His answer? His character, M'Baku. The leader of the Jabari tribe has fought alongside T'Challa but there are some things that they don't quite agree with, so it would be surprising to see him actually go against the Black Panther. However, Duke has his reasons as to why he thinks M'Baku would be a great villain.

"[M'Baku] is a hero, but he has so much going on," he said. "I think what makes a really great villain is that they have the power of seeing things their own way, and they can define their own circumstances." Duke thinks that's what's "really cool" about all the other MCU villains. How Loki "sees things his own way," choosing to be either an ally or antagonist and how Thanos has the "power of self-definition," which Duke sees as the character's greatest strength.

"It wasn't the rings, it wasn't his superpower or the fighting," the actor continued. It's that he made his mind up and said, ‘This is how I define justice.' Because he wasn't a bad guy." Duke says Thanos is just someone "seeking ultimate justice and balance" and the idea isn't bad. However, the actor pointed out that that's how Thanos defined justice. "All the really great villains that Marvel interrogates always have that ability, so they can go anywhere," he added.
