Willow Series Being Developed for Disney+ By Ron Howard

Ron Howard had reteamed with Lucasfilm to make Solo: A Star Wars Story, and rumors had been going around last year that a Willow sequel was in the works. As it turns out, it looks like those plans are moving forward, but not with a movie—a series.

According to MTV News' Josh Horowitz, Howard is now developing a Willow series for Disney+. Along for the ride is Solo writer Jon Kasdan, and Warwick Davis is also expected to reprise his role as Willow Ufgood.

We don't know what to expect with the show, but seeing as how Jon Kasdan was able to write a perfect young Han Solo with his father, I'm sure he has the experience to try and capture the same feel for Willow. While I do love Star Wars movies, I'm sure Lucasfilm can tap into other franchises that they made iconic like Indiana Jones and Willow. You can only chug the Star Wars train for so long before people start wondering what else is there.

With this Willow news out, I think this means that chances for a Solo sequel happening soon are not likely. Hopefully this just keeps Kasdan's foot on the door, seeing that he's teased that he would like to finish the character arc that he started with Solo. While rumor has it that Lucasfilm is developing a series, I would still rather see a full on film.

No release date has been announced for the Willow series, but expect The Mandalorian to debut on Disney+ when it launches Nov. 12.
