The Lord of the Rings is a classic novel by the legend John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (aka J.R.R. Tolkien). He began working on the classic sometime in 1937, finally completing the first book in 1949. The first book, called The Fellowship of the Ring, was later published in 1954.
The novel grew its following through the years, building a fanbase who learned how to read and write elvish and who knew the lore by heart. Moviemakers eventually picked up on the hype, producing one of the biggest and most beloved film trilogies ever made.
By December 2021, the first film, The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, was released. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was then released the next year in 2002, and the last film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King released after that in 2003.

Will There Be More Lord of the Rings Movies?
On Thursday, February 23, 2022, Warner Bro’s Discovery chief executive David Zaslav announced during an earnings call that a deal had been settled to produce “multiple” films based on the novels. Just how much and what other things the deal with Embracer Group (the Swedish gaming company that currently earns the rights to Tolkien’s work and most of the things related to it) entails is still not disclosed.
Who Will Be Producing the New Lord of the Rings Films?
Warner Bros will produce the film through its New Line Cinema label working alongside Embracer, who acquired the rights to the films, games, merchandise, live productions, and theme parks of The Lord of the Rings when it bought the entire Middle-Earth enterprise in 2022.
Embracer’s sub-division, Freemode, handled the adaptive rights for books and the franchise. This was spearheaded by Lee Guinchard along with former MGM executives Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who recently joined Warner Bros. In its report, Variety wrote about the statement released by Lee Guinchard, the chief executive of Freemode.

David Zaslav talked about how film franchises need to make more profits, also disclosing that they suffered a $1.2 billion loss mostly due to writedowns and cuts after Warner Bros merged with WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc in 2022.

The War of the Rohirrim tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary leader from the kingdom of Rohan, set 183 years before the events in The Lord of the Rings. The animated film is expected to premiere by April 2024.
