Jamie Bell Reflects on Taking Over the Role of Aragorn

In an interview with L’Officiel (via Slash Film), Jamie Bell opened up about taking over the role of Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum from Viggo Mortensen.
He admitted that he is feeling immense pressure to play the character, given how iconic Mortensen's portrayal was, and he promises that he is recapturing the energy that the original actor brought to the role.
"There’s pressure when you’re trying to follow in those footsteps. I’ve been asked to play a super iconic role, and I’ll do my best. But for me, Aragorn will always be just Viggo," the actor said.
"His performance is one of my all-time favorites, and I feel honored to try to recapture at least some of the energy he originally brought to the character. There’s no part of me that’s trying to outdo him."
Bell's remarks are understandable, given that Mortensen was very memorable when he played Aragorn in the original trilogy. While he is already proven to be a talented actor, there are still big shoes to fill for him. Hopefully, he will be able to live up to the same level that Mortensen did in the role.
What to Expect in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum
Drawing heavily from J.R.R. Tolkien’s footnotes, the story of The Hunt for Gollum bridges the gap between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. It tracks Aragorn’s dangerous mission to find Gollum before Sauron can extract the Ring's whereabouts from him.
Returning from the previous films are Andy Serkis (as Gollum/Smeagol), Ian McKellen (as Gandalf), Elijah Wood (as Frodo Baggins), and Lee Pace (as Thranduil). Joining the cast are Kate Winslet (as Marigol), Leo Woodall (as Halvard), Jamie Dornan (taking over the role of Aragorn), and Anya Taylor-Joy.
The film is currently slated for release in theaters on December 17, 2027. Production took place in New Zealand, just like the original trilogy.
