Netflix is doing its best to introduce more original content from European countries. And to date, The Empress is one of the most successful original German content since Barbarians. The question is: will there be The Empress Season 2?
Here's what we know so far.
Has The Empress Season 2 Been Confirmed?
Upon this writing, Netflix has not yet renewed The Empress for a second season. The show has been on Netflix for almost three weeks yet continues to do very well with viewers. In the first two weeks since the show was released, it has earned over 106,000,000 hours viewed. It was also the most-watched non-English series on the streaming platform.
Because of these numbers, it's possible that Netflix will renew the show for a second season.
It's official! The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Netflix has ordered The Empress to return for a second season. With the news, showrunner, Katharina Eyssen, shared:
“I am incredibly grateful that we were able to touch so many different people in Germany and all over the world with our series.
The story of Elisabeth’s life is a story of the power of love, but also of the courage to be different, and of hope for a better future, and that is what we need at this time. That’s why we are very happy to be able to continue telling this exciting story.”
Possible The Empress Season 2 Release Date
If Netflix decides to renew The Empress for a second season, it might be a while before the show gets released. We could see The Empress Season 2 get released sometime in 2024.
