Park Yoo Chun found hope after his drug controversy when he was tapped to play the lead role in the independent film, To Evil. It became his first leading role since he retired in 2019.

Park Yoo Chun’s Movie To Evil Will Not Be Released in South Korea

To Evil was initially scheduled to enter big screens this month. However, Wikitree clarified it would not happen after the court denied his request to have his broadcast ban lifted.

With that, the film’s production company decided to release it on IPTV and VOD services instead.

For what it’s worth, the 50th Civil Agreement of the Seoul Central District Court’s Chief Judge Song Kyung Geun denied the request on September 27.

"The basis for a claim for damages due to Park Yoo Chun's breach of an exclusive contract and the claim for the prohibition of broadcast appearances and entertainment activities is the same. There are no circumstances to deem that the change in the claim is inappropriate or constitutes an abuse of rights. Therefore, the reasons for the cancellation of the prohibition cannot be recognized,” the court concluded.

The rejection also came after entertainment agency Yesperar Co. Ltd. filed an injunction after Park Yoo Chun reportedly violated his exclusive contract with them by working with a third party.

Park Yoo Chun’s Ban Explained

Last year, the injunction filed by the Seoul Central District Court to ban the former K-pop idol was approved after his drug use controversy.

In 2019, Park Yoo Chun’s ex-girlfriend, Hwang Ha Na, reportedly consumed Philopon (a form of methamphetamine). A college student revealed that they took the drugs with her eight times, but the student was the only one sentenced with imprisonment.

She eventually revealed her connections with high-ranking police officers, freeing her from any conviction. Park Yoo Chun, for his part, tested positive for drugs.
