Mortal Kombat has been a beloved game for 30 years that various generations learned to love over the years and this year, 2021, a new live-action movie arrives to bring the game into life once more and introducing it to a whole new generation but will it be on Netflix, though?

With the ongoing pandemic causing the whole world to retreat to homes, entertainment hasn't been scarce with the presence of streaming platforms offering various film titles and series one could access in the comforts of their couches with one touch of a button. The industry of film also continued with these, releasing films supposedly on theaters, online.

As the situation eases a little, theaters are slowly reopening and films are starting to be back on the big screen. Still, with many choosing to stay at home, there are same-day releases on streaming platforms. Mortal Kombat sets an example for that as it would be having a theatrical release as well as a same-day release online through select streaming platforms online.

An amazing ensemble stars Mortal Kombat with Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Mechad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanasa as Hanzo Hasashi/ Scorpion and Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/ Sub-Zero. Also joining the cast would be Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Matilda Kimber as Emily Young, and Laura Brent as Allison Young.

The plot of Mortal Kombat follows Cole Young, an orphan with no idea of his lineage and bearing a mark he knows nothing of, gets his quiet life disrupted when Bi-Han/ Sub-Zero hunts him down. He met Jax, a person with the same mark, and was instructed to look for Sonya Blade. He then finds Lord Raiden and his sanctuary for the people with the mark and there, Cole trains with Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kano, preparing for the arrival of Shang-Tsung.

Simon McQuoid, the director of Mortal Kombat, teams with producers James Wan, Todd Garner, and Bennett Walsh, in an R-Rated film with scenes that are "sickeningly violent" as he shared in a recently released featurette.

As early as now, a lot are hyped that even stars of the film themselves, McNamee and Lawson, shared to EpicStream that they are hoping for a sequel. Speaking of a sequel to Mortal Kombat, the director himself said to EpicStream that it is for the audience to decide whether there would be one.

Unfortunately, the film will not be on Netflix the same day as its release. There is also no confirmation yet whether the film will turn up on the said streaming platform sometime soon. For now, it will not be on Netflix as it will be on another streaming platform. Despite that, Netflix holds a lot of titles one can enjoy from movies to series, and even anime for the subscription cost of $8.99 per month for the basic plan, $13.99 monthly for the standard plan, and $17.99 a month for the premium plan.

Mortal Kombat will be released in theaters on April 23, 2021, and it will also have a same-day release on HBO Max where the film would be on for 31 days from the release date. One can access Mortal Kombat along with all the titles under HBO Max like the whole slate of Warner Bros. for this year for the price of a subscription costing $14.99 a month.
