In case you missed it, a standalone Peacemaker spinoff series is currently in development over at HBO Max starring John Cena, and of course, it'll be helmed by none other than The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. The project was officially announced by both Cena and Gunn yesterday and it sure has our curiosity tickled!
It's exciting news for sure for a lot of DC fanatics but the Marvel fandom can't help but wonder how it will affect the production for Gunn's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 which is among the most anticipated projects in the MCU. One fan asked the director on Twitter regarding possible delays to GOTG Vol. 3's filming and Gunn had this to say: "I'm doing #Peacemaker in the time always allotted between #TheSuicideSquad & #GotGVol3."
He also revealed that Peacemaker is the product of his lonesomeness and brilliant imagination while he's stuck at home during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. "Normally I would have been taking more of a break in this space but it's COVID, I'm stuck at home, so I wrote a TV series." So there, by the looks of it, Gunn's plans will not be halted. YES! If it wasn't clear enough, Gunn is quite a busy man these days and it's amazing how he's able to juggle one project after the other and still retain all of his wacky and amazing ideas. Not only that, he doesn't seem fazed by the task at hand considering he's doing separate film projects for comic book giants DC and Marvel. We've seen how he handled the GOTG franchise on two separate occasions and how he managed to turn D-list characters into mainstream icons. I'm pretty sure he'll do the same with the characters from his Suicide Squad film, as well as Peacemaker who is a lesser-known DC character. How can you not be stoked?
