Just days before its scheduled premiere date, Apple TV+ announced that they are indefinitely postponing the release of the new Jessica Chastain series The Savant.

The thriller drama has been one of the most highly anticipated TV releases this fall, not only because of the Oscar-winning actress's involvement, but also due to its relevant themes to the current political climate and for being inspired by a real-life story. However, it looks like audiences will have to wait a little longer before they'll be able to watch the series.

Why Apple TV+ Postponed the Release of The Savant?

In a short statement, Apple TV+ announced that they have decided to postpone the premiere of The Savant, which was originally set to arrive on the platform this Friday, September 26.

"After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date," the streamer said.

While no specific reason was stated for why the series was postponed, it's been speculated that it might be related to the current political climate in the aftermath of the killing of Charlie Kirk weeks ago.

Some of the TV critics who have seen the series in advanced screeners have pushed back on the postponement, as they believe that the timing fits better today, more than ever, to release The Savant.

Aramide Tinubu of Variety wrote, "The Savant is precisely the type of show America needs right now. It looks at a sector of mostly white male individuals who believe that America belongs to them."

She noted that "nowhere in the show does it mention Donald Trump’s name, and other than depicting white nationalists in a negative light," and it is a "straightforward, non-controversial character study — and a well-paced thriller — about one woman trying to stop domestic terrorism."

What is The Savant About?

The Savant is described as a "tense and high-stakes thriller" that follows an undercover investigator known as "The Savant" as she infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act.

Aside from Chastain, the cast also includes Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and guest star Pablo Schreiber.

The series will have a limited run of eight episodes. No new release date has been set yet since the postponement of the premiere was announced.
