Three years after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their senior royal roles, talks about their exit and relationship with the royal family remain rampant until today. As a lot of things have been said and done, the Duke of Sussex finally revealed why he left the royal family.
Prince Harry cited several reasons that led to their infamous Megxit. Aside from the lack of understanding and support, Meghan Markle's husband also alluded that he already feared for his and his family's lives.
Prince Harry Fears for Family's Life
The former senior royal held a series of interviews in the U.K. and the U.S. to promote his new book, Spare.
In his talk with ITV, he made a bombshell revelation, accusing some royal family members of working with the U.K. tabloid press to ruin his and his wife's images to improve their reputations.
Hence, he decided to leave Britain with his family for California in 2020, citing that he had started fearing for their lives.
"After many, many years of lies being told about me and my family, there comes a point where, going back to the relationship between certain members of the family and the tabloid press, those certain members have decided to get in the bed with the devil ... to rehabilitate their image," he said, via CBC. "The moment that that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me, other members of my family, then that's where I draw the line."
Lack of Support and Understanding
In another interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, he said he left the royal family due to the "lack of support and lack of understanding."
The father-of-two still called the U.K. his home, but he had to remove his family from their situation there, reasoning he "could see where this was headed."

He couldn't help but compare their situation to what his mom, Prince Diana, went through with the press when she was still alive.
"I asked for calm from the British tabloids. Once as a boyfriend, once as a husband, and once as a father," he stated.
Oprah wanted Prince Harry to be clear if his reason for leaving Britain was getting away from the press or not getting enough support from the firm, to which he responded with "both."
"If you'd had the support, you would still be there," Oprah assumed.
"Without question," Prince Harry replied.
