Why is Tom Scott Quitting YouTube?
Back in June 30, 2023, Tom Scott released a video where he explained his decision to quit YouTube. In the two-minute video, he said: “Six months from now, this channel stops.”
He also explained that he regularly posts an update to his channel every week. And over a span of 10 years, that can take a toll on someone. And true enough, on January 1, 2024, Tom Scott quit YouTube.
In the YouTube video, Tom Scott shared that this is an indefinite leave and that "It’s probably not goodbye forever, but this channel will stop. At least, for a while."
While the goodbye video was released in June 2023, Scott shared that he already has scheduled 26 other videos to come out for the rest of the year. But now that it's already January 2024, the YouTuber has kept his word and will go on "a vacation" for an unknown period.
What's Next for Tom Scott?
Despite his announcement, Tom Scott revealed that he plans to continue doing his weekly comedy podcast, Lateral with Tom Scott.
This podcast was adapted from a six-episode game show that Scott developed with puzzle author, David Bodycombe, in 2018. Together with three other contestants, Scott takes turns asking difficult questions with a strange answer.
Even though Scott will be putting his main YouTube channel on an indefinite hiatus, his Lateral podcast will continue to release episodes.
The YouTuber also plans to keep his weekly newsletter active.
