Fan-favorite Marvel character Julia Carpenter (aka Julia Cornwall) is set to make her live-action cinematic debut on the new Sony's Spider-Man Universe film Madame Web. She is played by Anyone But You and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney.

However, fans noticed that the film will introduce Sweeney's character as "Julia Cornwall" instead of her usual name of Julia Carpenter in the comics and it prompted questions for some people on why she will have a different name.

Fortunately, there is an explanation behind the Madame Web character's name change and it all comes down to the source material itself.

As explained by Marvel.com, Julia Cornwall is the character's maiden name since she was born to her parents Elizabeth and Walter Cornwall.

When she attended college, she met her husband Larry Carpenter, and carried his last name when they got married. While they eventually got divorced, Julia decided to retain the Carpenter last name and that's what she's become known for ever since.

In Madame Web, Julia is going to be portrayed as a single woman hence her name "Julia Cornwall" when we meet her in the film.

It is unknown yet whether the film will explore Julia's romantic life and have her cross paths with Larry Carpenter to establish their relationship. For now, we can certainly say that we will be seeing her as a single woman as suggested by her name.

As we've seen in the trailers that have been released so far, Julia Cornwall is expected to suit up as Spider-Woman at some point during the events of Madame Web.

"I was in Boston already – we filmed in Boston – and we had this really cool scan done of our body, so they could get a full 3D measurement of us, and they showed us sketches. I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s so cool,'" Sweeney recalled her experience during her appearance in Hot Ones (via CBR).

"It had like full 3D sketches of our faces, and when I put it on, I truly felt like a superhero. It was the coolest thing ever."

Sony has not laid out their plans yet for the future of the characters in the film and whether Sweeney's Julia Cornwall will eventually get her own solo movie, but it is exciting to see how her debut will play out.

Madame Web is set to arrive in theaters this February 14.
