Percy Jackson and the Olympians is undoubtedly Rick Riordan's gift to his new and longtime fans. However, upon the premiere of the first two episodes of Season 1, a key character is missing from the highly anticipated project. Why is Argus not in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
Who is Argus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
The Disney Plus series has been a long time coming, especially with series creator Rick Riordan promising that he would adapt a story more accurate to the books than what the movies ended up giving fans.
As he told Entertainment Weekly, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series has him more involved than ever, in which he calls it a 'faithful adaptation', 'the one [fans] have been waiting for' ahead of its premiere.
But as much as fans had gotten what they wanted, they couldn't help but notice that Argus, the hundred-eyed giant who serves as head of security at Camp Half-Blood, was not part of the roster.
Argus was supposed to show up after Percy Jackson battles with the Minotaur that supposedly killed his mother. However, the Disney Plus series didn't show Argus in its first two episodes. So, what gives?

Argus Will Potentially Appear in the Future
In response to the absence of one of Camp Half-Blood's guardians, Rick and Becky Riordan revealed that Argus was initially a part of the Disney series' original blueprint.
Through their established production company, Mythomagic, Inc., the series creators explained that the missing character wasn't able to make its appearance in the first season considering that the special effects budget would be too expensive.
Check out what they said on the social media platform Threads below:
We worked very hard to include Argus (he was in the script during the beginning of (102) but then when we all realized the special effects budget would have been spent on all those eyes one reconsiders. So, PJO fans just imagine him there with Percy and Grover trying to lighten the mood.
Argus' Role is Bigger Than You Might Think
Even though he speaks little in the book series, the hundred-eyed giant was eventually put into good use at the frontline during The Battle of the Labyrinth.
He has also helped Percy Jackson and the Olympians more times than you can count, thus showing why he deserves his title of being head of security down at Camp Half-Blood.
It remains to be seen whether we'll see him grace the screen once Season 2 arrives, but holding on to Rick Riordan's words of a faithful adaptation could ease your mind for now.
