Mushoku Tensei: A Hit Isekai Series
In typical isekai anime fashion, Mushoku Tensei follows a man who led a purposeless life, who dies and gets reincarnated in a fantasy world as a young child with a talent for magic.
In the second part of season 1, Rudeus and Eris become adventurers to work their way home after a surge of mana stranded them in the middle of the Demon Continent.
Why Did Eris Leave Rudeus?
After a long journey together, Eris leaves Rudeus because she wants to become stronger and capable of protecting him from future threats.
In the beginning, Rudeus and Eris had a rocky relationship when he first joined her household to help with her lessons. But the two grew closer with time.
When they got trapped away from home, they learned a lot about themselves and each other as they made their way back.
The first season of Mushoku Tensei ends with Rudeus and Eris finally back in Roa.
Eris gets the closure she needs, but seeing her home in ruins is still tragic, as she fully realizes she has no family left other than Rudeus.
Alphonse, one of her remaining servants, tells her that her only hope would be to marry into another branch of the Greyrat family to preserve the bloodline.
In defiance, Eris initiates sex with Rudeus only to leave him the next morning and set off with Ghislaine.
Her decision is influenced by her wish to protect Rudeus. Earlier, she had seen his near-death at the hand of Orsted, the Dragon God.
Eris was badly shaken by this incident, all the more so since Rudeus is her sole remaining family member.
So far, Rudeus has helped and protected her, so she would like to do the same for him.
While Eris' wish to grow as a person away from Rudeus is valid, her leaving without explaining her intentions is a classic case of miscommunication between lovers.
Since this could have been resolved with a simple chat, the scene might feel a bit frustrating for viewers.
Hopefully, season 2 of Mushoku Tensei will tackle this and resolve the rift.

Will Eris and Rudeus Meet Again?
Based on the light novel, we can guarantee that Eris and Rudeus meet again and get back together. However, five years pass before this reunion and we can't guarantee that it will happen in season 2.
By the time she meets Rudeus again, Eris has achieved her goal. She's now a capable swordswoman.
Since Rudeus isn't that strong in this area, Eris is the one yielding the sword when they go adventuring together, which is a nice twist!
In the final battle of the series, she plays a key role, showing that she's now fully capable of defending herself and her loved ones.
