Meet Melody in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
One of the new characters we meet in the Ghostbusters sequel is the lingering ghost, Melody (played by Emily Alyn Lind), who happens to have found Phoebe Spengler (McKenna Grace) when her family had her stay put.
Melody is the first to befriend Phoebe during their alone time but possesses a different motive in mind.
Considering that not all ghosts' unfinished business requires wreaking havoc on humanity in the living world, Phoebe takes this friendship to a whole new level.
Phoebe decides to trust Melody without thinking of the possibility that she might not be as good a friend as she thought.
In this case, Melody manipulates Phoebe into entering the spirit world so that she can awaken the main villain of the story in an alternate dimension.
But don't take this as a mistake in Phoebe's judgment. In fact, there's a lot more to Melody's character than what was shown in the first half of the film.

Whose Side is Melody on in Frozen Empire?
Keep in mind that when Melody approached Phoebe, the latter was feeling left out by her own family on their ghosthunting. In this sense, since both are of the same age, Melody could feel the loneliness of the kid.
While Melody did willingly work with the Garraka, the ghost eventually had a change of heart by helping Nadeem (Kumail Nanjiani) ignite the flame and provide the matchbook to use against the actual enemy.
Besides, Melody just wanted to see her family. She thought that helping the Garrakas could let her. However, as soon as she realizes that the villain isn't there to help her, she turns to the other side.
Eventually, by defeating the Garraka, she finally becomes free and manages to move on her own terms, which had been the missing formula she failed to realize in her ghost life.
