Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings finally debuted its official teaser this week which unsurprisingly caused a lot of buzz within the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom. Not a lot of fans are familiar with the character and some would say that Marvel Studios is taking a huge risk introducing someone like him to the fold but so far, the response for the upcoming Phase 4 project has been pretty positive.

Aside from the titular hero, the film is set to feature at least five villains, something that's unheard of in the MCU especially for a film series that is only making its grand debut. So far, the confirmed baddies for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
include Shang-Chi's own flesh and blood in Wenwu aka The Mandarin and Xialing, the terrorist group the Ten Rings, the mysterious Death Dealer, and an interesting character named Razor Fist.

Casual fans may not be aware of it, but Shang-Chi and Razor Fist share a lot of comic book history together and he's often considered as one of Shang-Chi's biggest foes. Now, who exactly is Razor Fist and why is he called that?

Who is Razor Fist?

Razor Fist is one of Shang-Chi's fiercest foes in the comics so it's only natural for him to appear in the first film. The character made its official debut in Master of Kung-Fu #29 released in June 1975 and just like most Marvel characters, the mantle would be passed on to different individuals over the course of Shang-Chi's comic book run. The villain doesn't possess any supernatural abilities but he has steel blades for hands.

The first person to don the Razor Fist persona is a man named William Young who served as an assassin, bodyguard, and enforcer for Carlton Velcro, the man responsible for giving him his bladed hands who is also known as one of Shang-Chi's biggest nemesis.

Other notable characters to take on the mantle include brothers Douglas and William Scott who also got their surgically-repaired razor hands with the help of Velcro. Now, apart from being a major thorn on the side of the Master of Kung-Fu, Razor Fist has found himself in several run-ins with other iconic Marvel heroes like Captain America, Hawkeye, and Wolverine just to name a few.

While the trailer doesn't exactly confirm which version of the villain we'll get to see in the film, it's safe to assume that it will be William Young. After all, he's the first guy to officially take on the Razor Fist mantle and it makes total sense for him to make his MCU debut alongside the titular hero. Now, one would assume that the studio could take the liberty of tweaking the character, something they've been notorious for but considering Razor Fist is a lesser-known villain, they'd probably stick to his origin story.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will hit cinemas on September 3, 2021.
