What Is the Plot of Shangri-La Frontier?
Shangri-La Frontier is an action-fantasy anime set in the near future where full-dive VR games have become the popular form of gaming.
The story follows Rakuro Hizutome, a skilled gamer who seeks out “trash games” and aims to master them.
One day, he tried out a popular VR game called Shangri-La Frontier. Rakuro then realizes that Shangri-La Frontier is not like other games he has played before.
He forms a team with other players and works with them to overcome the challenges in the game. Rakuro also aims to uncover the secrets that Shangri-La Frontier hides.
The official synopsis of Shangri-La Frontier, as provided by Kodansha, reads:
“Second year high school student Rakuro Hizutome is interested in one thing only: finding "shitty games" and beating the crap out of them. His gaming skills are second to none, and no game is too bad for him to enjoy. So when he's introduced to the new VR game , he does what he does best—min-maxes and skips the prologue to jump straight into the action. But can even an expert gamer like Rakuro discover all the secrets that hides...?”

Shangri-La Frontier started as a web novel series written by Katarina that began publishing on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2017.

The Shangri-La Frontier manga is still ongoing. So far, 15 volumes have been published, with over 100 chapters.
