- Quick Answer: Sean “Diddy” Combs is projected to be released from federal prison on February 23, 2028, following updates to Bureau of Prisons administrative records.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ release date has once again been changed, and it is now set earlier than previously expected.
The music mogul is currently detained at Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in southern New Jersey, serving a four-year sentence following his conviction on two counts of transportation for prostitution in July 2025. So, when will Diddy be out?
When Will Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Be Released From Prison?

According to official records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Sean “Diddy” Combs is now set to be released on February 23, 2028–the third time his prison release date has been changed.
Originally, he was scheduled to be released on June 4, 2028, but it was later moved up to April 25, 2028, and then again to April 15, 2028.
Diddy started serving his 50-month sentence in September 2025, two months after his conviction.
The latest release change comes as his legal team continues to challenge his conviction.
His lawyers formally appealed both his conviction and sentence in December 2025, arguing that the sexual encounters at the center of the case were consensual and that the punishment imposed by the court was excessive.
In a March appellate filing, they described his prison sentence as a “perversion of justice” and demanded his “immediate release and a judgment of acquittal or at least vacate and remand for resentencing.”
Federal prosecutors have urged an appeals court to reject these arguments. They stressed that Diddy was a repeat offender and said the trial judge properly considered the evidence presented during the proceedings when handing down his sentence.
“According to Combs, the district court should have closed its eyes to how he carried out his Mann Act offenses and abused his victims–violently beating them, threatening them, lying to them, and plying them with drugs,” prosecutors wrote in the filing.
So far, the appeal remains pending in the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. This means that even if his release date continues to change, his legal battle is far from over.
How Is Sean “Diddy” Combs Doing in Prison?

According to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyer Juda Engelmayer (via Us Weekly), the former rapper has remained “remarkably positive” and “hopeful” amid his incarceration.
“He’s focused on the appeal,” she said. “And [he’s] looking back at his life and trying to figure out ways to improve and be a better person.”
Being hands-on with the case, Engelmayer added that Diddy has already become “like a paralegal, if not a lawyer.”
Diddy is also working in the prison’s library, shelving books, organizing materials, and helping other inmates find reading recommendations.
He also stays active by playing basketball in the prison yard. As part of his sentence, he participates in Fort Dix’s Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP).
