As the Star Wars cinematic universe continues to expand, the next show we can look forward to is the upcoming spinoff series, Star Wars: Ahsoka.
When fans first got to know Ahsoka Tano from the animated series, Clone Wars, they quickly fell in love with her character. So it was really no surprise why the streaming service decided to give the character her own series. This was confirmed at Ahsoka Tano's live-action debut during The Mandalorian Season 2. And now, many can't help but wonder when it will be released.
Unfortunately, Disney Plus will not be releasing this show in July 2022. But it has been confirmed and is currently underway. For now, here are the things you should know about the series:
When Will Star Wars: Ahsoka Be Released?
As of this writing, there is no exact date on when the live-action series will be released. But it is expected to release together with The Mandalorian Season 3 in 2023. The latter is slated to make its return on screens on February 2023. If all goes well, we should see Star Wars: Ahsoka be aired after that time.
Production for Star Wars; Ahsoka started in May 2022. This was confirmed by Disney Plus through their official Twitter account. The post revealed a photo of a director's chair on set of one of the scenes being shot for the series. It was accompanied by a caption that read: "Ahsoka, an Original series, starts production today #DisneyPlus."
Since production just started filming, we can expect to wait a few more months before the series will be released. Apart from filming, the amount of CGI and special effects needed to be added in post-production will not make things any easier.
Who Will Be in Star Wars: Ahsoka?
The main characters that have been cast in Star Wars: Ahsoka include the following:
- Rosario Dawson (as Ahsoka)
- Natasha Liu Bordizzo (as Sabine Wren)
- Ray Stevenson (rumored to be a villain role)
- Ivanna Sakhno (unknown role)
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Hayden Christensen will reprise his iconic role as Darth Vader for the series.
In an accidental slip, Ewan McGregor revealed to Vanity Fair that his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be joining Star Wars: Ashoka. "My partner, Mary, is doing that Star Wars series with Rosario and she's about to start. Our little boy has been born into this massive Star Wars family."
There hasn't been any official confirmation on this and what role Winstead will play.
What Will Star Wars: Ahsoka Be About?
While Lucasfilm and Disney Plus have tried to keep any Star Wars: Ashoka plot under wraps, footage at the Star Wars Celebration seemed to confirm speculations made by fans.
As it turns out, the series will be about Ahsoka and Sabine's hunt for Ezra Bridger. This was seen in a short teaser aired exclusively for The Mandalorian fans. The clip shows Ahsoka entering a ship similar to Ghost.
The protagonist passes by a mysterious character with green head tails. Fans can't help but think this is Hera, a pilot from Rebels that will be rumored to be played by Winstead. As the footage ends, Ahsoka stands in front of a mural with Sabine walking up to her. Fans who are familiar with Rebels believe that the two characters will be looking for Ezra in the series.
Of course, this isn't an official synopsis yet. Fans will have to wait until an official trailer will be released by Disney Plus.
Will There be a Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2?
Right now, Star Wars: Ahsoka is billed as a miniseries. There is no official word yet on whether Ahsoka will be returning for a second season. But it's not something that is set in stone. There have been several other Disney Plus shows that were announced as a miniseries yet suddenly got picked up for a second season. Case in point, Loki.
It will really depend on how well Star Wars: Ahsoka will be accepted by fans and how the story ends. But considering this is part of the Star Wars universe, it's hard to imagine that this will be a flop. Not to mention, Ahsoka is a fan favorite, so it's possible that her fans will stay loyal to the show.
Is There a Star Wars: Ahsoka Trailer Online?
A few days ago, an unofficial video leaked online revealing it to be some scenes from the upcoming series. But it's hard to see if this is really what will happen when the series gets released.
As for the footage that was presented during the Star Wars Celebration event, the sizzle reel was only revealed behind closed doors. You won't be able to find any footage of that online.
