Rebels unfolds fourteen years after Revenge of the Sith, between 5 BBY and 1 BBY, that is five years before the Battle of Yavin, up to one year before Luke's destruction of the Death Star.

Simply put, this means that Star Wars Rebels starts around fourteen years after the Empire took over.

It's fairly easy to keep track of where exactly Rebels fits in the Star Wars timeline because the main character, Ezra Bridger, is the same age as Luke and Leia.

When the show begins, he's fourteen years old, and by the end of Rebels he's about nineteen.

Rebels is a fairly new star wars series but in terms of actual timelines, it takes place early-ish chronologically.

Rebels events happen after the prequel trilogy, with its first episode unfolding fourteen years after Revenge of the Sith.

The same is true for Rebels' relationship with the Clone Wars animated series whose seventh and final season takes place at the same time as Revenge of the Sith.

Conversely, Rebels isn't a direct sequel to Clone Wars but many consider it to be a spiritual sequel.

Many main characters from Clone Wars also appear in Rebels (though usually not in smaller roles) and a few Clone Wars plot threads, such as Darth Maul's arc find long-awaited resolutions in Rebels.

Therefore, if you're going to watch one show before Rebels, this would be Clone Wars.

Chronologically speaking, the first movie after Rebels in the Star Wars timeline is Rogue One.

In fact, Rebels foreshadows the building of the Death Star and the rebel activity to destroy it.

After that, we have the original trilogy, which takes place in the years after Rebels' final events.

The Mandalorian, The Book of Bobba Fett, and Ahsoka all take place within a decade after the liberation and the establishment of the New Republic.

The sequel trilogy unfolds even later.
