Alyssa Targaryen is essentially the mother of Viserys and Daemon Targaryen (so imagine our surprise at what Daemon had been doing to her in his dream).

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5 titled Regent introduced her in the most malicious way possible — having sex with her son in his dream.

Although the show has subtly referenced her existence when Rhaenyra uses her story behind taming the dragon Meleys before Rhaenys did, Alyssa's name remains hidden.

However, in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, Alyssa is the daughter of King Jaehaerys and Alysanne who was initially betrothed to marry her eldest brother, Aemon.

Alysanne believed Alyssa was destined to marry her other brother, Baelon, who ultimately fell in love with her. But the real story begins through Alyssa and Baelon's marriage.

While Alyssa was able to give birth to his sons, Viserys and Daemon, she died due to complications of her birth-giving to her third son. She passed away at the age of twenty-four, while the third son, Aegon, died before turning his first year.

Going back to Daemon's dream, viewers would only find out that the woman Daemon is making love to is his mother after she mentions, "If only you'd been born first. My favorite son."

It indicates that Daemon doesn't know his mother well, given how young he and Viserys were when she died.

But it also marks a darker message about how much he yearned to be respected and loved the way his mother did even when he was a mere baby, when they barely knew each other, as opposed to how Rhaenyra lost her attachment to him.

However, it also implies that whether he lurks, in his dreams or reality, the story would be just as harsh for him to face. He needs to reclaim his power and get a grip on how he wants to steer his life back under his control.
