GIRL'S RE:VERSE will take K-pop fans to the virtual world of aspiring AI idols.

Amid the rise of virtual technology, AI idols also continue to dominate the K-pop industry. In fact, current K-pop groups like aespa, NCT, and The Boyz adopted it and have been promoting their music with animated music videos.

Now, Kakao Entertainment will take the AI groups to the next level by launching another virtual idol group through a competition show.

What To Know About GIRL'S RE:VERSE

Kakao Entertainment, per The Korea Times, confirmed last week that it would release the first episode of GIRL'S RE:VERSE on the Kakao Page and YouTube on November 28.

Jo Wook Hyung joined the list of producers of the program. He previously worked on Queendom, which featured (G)I-DLE and MAMAMOO, among others.

"The winners will be chosen based on the voting results from our viewers. Once they become part of our new virtual group, they will get the chance to drop a new song and interact with their followers,” Kakao said.

The company will reportedly hide the identities of the 30 singers who will participate in the competition in W, a virtual world. The aspiring virtual idols’ identities will only be revealed after they get eliminated.

GIRL'S RE:VERSE’s production team said that the program would show how far the K-pop industry could go while highlighting K-pop singers’ capacity through the virtual characters.

Virtual K-pop Idols Are on the Rise

Before the debut of the survivors in the GIRL'S RE:VERSE, there were renowned virtual idols who already dominated the scene.

For instance, League of Legends debuted its virtual K-pop group comprising the four heroes in the game — Kai’Sa, Ahri, Akali, and Evelynn. They are being voiced by (G)I-DLE members Miyeon and Soyeon alongside Madison Beer and Jaira Burns.

There is also SUPERKIND, a K-pop boy group consisting of five members — Geon, Eugene, Sio, Daemon, and Saejin. The latter member gained most of the attention because of the character’s visual and dancing skills.

Meanwhile, Pulse9 created the 11-member AI girl group, ETERNITY, last year.
