Song Hye Kyo Marks Hangeul Day With Generous Donation to Utoro Museum

Song Hye Kyo did something special in line with South Korea's Hangeul Day.

On October 9, South Korea celebrated Hanguel Day to commemorate the Korean Alphabet. It started in 1926, but the October 9 date was first used in 1945.

To mark the special day, Song Hye Kyo made an impressive donation to the Utoro museum.

How Song Hye Kyo Marks Hangeul Day

As confirmed by The Korea Times, the Descendants of the Sun star worked with Seo Kyung Duk to donate 10,000 Korean/English guidebooks to Utoro Peace Memorial Museum, Japan. The town near Kyoto was where 1,300 were forced into labor amid World War II.

"The guidebooks will be placed on the first floor of the museum, which opened in April. We produced these books for the convenience of visitors and they are available in English as well. We beli1eve people of all genders and ages will be able to understand the history of Utoro with the help of our books," the professor said.

He and Song Hye Kyo reportedly donated the audiobooks to help the museum preserve the town's history.

Professor Seo Kyung Duk also noted that they donated a bulletin board two years ago.

Previously, the duo teamed up to donate Korean/French guidebooks to the Korean Cultural Center in Paris.

Song Hye Kyo Did Other Charitable Works This Year

Aside from this month's donation, Song Joong Ki's ex-wife and the professor also donated 10,000 guidebooks on Korea's independence movement to the Korean Education Center in San Francisco to mark the March 1 Independence Movement Day.

During the same event, Song Hye Kyo supported the Meet Our Country's History Abroad series for the seventh time this year.

The actress also dedicated herself to other philanthropic works, including her donations to the Busan International Film Festival in 2013 to allow underprivileged young people in Busan to attend the event and his assistance to the Seoul National University Children's Hospital and Korean Red Cross.
