What If Kylo Ren Can’t Be Redeemed In Star Wars: Episode IX?

Star Wars fans might be hoping to see Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) finally turn towards the Light when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres earlier this year, but what's going to happen if the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (the late Carrie Fisher) doesn't really want any sort of redemption?

There are a number of theories about The Rise of Skywalker that have been circulating online, and it looks like one of the newest theories to make the rounds has to do with Kylo Ren and his mask. According to a new post on Reddit,Star Wars fans might want to see Ben Solo return to the Light Side of the Force after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but Kylo Ren actually made the active choice to remain in the Dark Side.

The post carefully analyzes why Kylo Ren might stubbornly cling to the Dark Side in Episode IX, saying that Kylo Ren may now be able to embrace who he really is, cracks and all like his broken helmet which seems to get repaired using Kintsugi in the upcoming movie.

Speaking in a previous interview with Empire, The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams explained that Kylo Ren's torn mask is a visual representation of who he is inside. The new Star Wars theory says that this means that the Star Wars villain has already acknowledged who he really is.

Not only that, but even merchandise for the film seems to emphasize that Kylo remains loyal to the Darkness.

Then again, Lucasfilm might be hiding the twist to avoid spoilers from leaking online. What do you think? Will Kylo Ren remain in the Dark in Episode IX? Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
