Who Is Shigeru Yahaba in Haikyuu?

In Haikyuu, Yahaba is enrolled as a second-year student at Aoba Johsai High. In the Boys’ Volleyball Team, he serves as a pinch server and backup setter.

During matches, he dons the customary Aoba Johsai High School team uniform, featuring the number 6 prominently displayed on the back.

He harbors no concern about his role as a backup setter. In fact, he wholeheartedly supports his senior teammates, even in the face of their defeat against Karasuno High.

Sometimes, a trace of fear surfaces, but all in all, Yahaba is a carefree and calm individual. Still, he can take a serious and assertive stance when necessary.

This is evident when he reprimands Kentaro Kyotani for skipping practice and later when he guides Kyotani’s moments of instability in the second match against Karasuno High.

Initially, Kyotani saw Yahaba as someone who lacked substance, and interestingly, Yahaba acknowledged and agreed with his thoughts.

While his skills are not prominently covered in Haikyuu, it appears that he possesses moderate skills in his role as a setter.

He is also capable of executing jump serves at a proficiently standard level.

Yahaba’s last appearance in Haikyuu occurs as he observes the match between Japan and Argentina.

His frustration surfaces when the announcers discuss how Toru Oikawa never made it into the Nationals during his high school days.

Meanwhile, after graduating, Yahaba has transitioned into a role as a 25-year-old sports instructor.

Haikyuu!! Final Movie Part 1, also known as Haikyuu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump, is scheduled to be released on February 16, 2024, in Japan.
