Unfortunately, both Phill Simms and Boomer Esiason are out sick today. As a result, CBS' popular Sunday football show, The NFL Today, had to undergo some broadcast changes. Esiason and Simms' absence also means that they will have to miss The NFL Today's Week 18 edition.

Considering that the NFL is in its final week of the regular season, the hosts dearly missed.

Simms appeared on another CBS NFL program earlier in the day, but apparently left shortly after. Meanwhile, Esiason did not make an appearance on any show today.

Disappointed fans took to social media to complain the show just wasn't the same without them.

Although we know what happened to Esiason today, fans also worry the former NFL QB might not be returning to CBS at all.

As it turns out, the contracts of Esiason, Simms, Bill Cowher, and James Brown are set to expire soon. This led New York Post sports analyst Andrew Marchand to speculate that an anchor shakeup could be in the cards for CBS.

In the report, Marchand notes that Nate Burleson is the only name right now that is under contract to return. If this is the case, he could become the new host of The NFL Today.

Boomer Esiason's co-anchor Phil Simms told Marchand:

“I’m never going to get out of it.  I don’t know what I’ll do if I don’t go back to CBS. But I’m definitely going to continue to work with or in the NFL — somewhere, somehow, whatever it is. I’m just not going to go, ‘OK, I’m done. I’m retired.’”

Esiason has not commented on a potential shakeup. Over on Twitter, his last post seems to be from a day ago and doesn't mention anything that could make fans worry.
