All the branches of the Ten Rings operate as individuals, with each of the cells having its own independent operations. The leaders of every cell have no idea who are the other members of another cell except for having one contact. Every cell of the Ten Rings will receive weapons or money, as long as they get them and never ask any questions.

The Ten Rings are frequently depicted as the ten actual rings of an alien origin which grant the wearer ten powers, one for each of the rings. In an alternate universe tale Secret Wars, the Ten Rings are the ten martial arts techniques created by the "Mandarin" wherein Shang-Chi was able to master nine out of the ten.
