Westworld’s Game of Thrones Cameo is also a Jurassic Park Easter Egg

Westworld has just dropped a cameo on Game of Thrones fans which featured Drogon and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but did you know that their short scene was also a reference to Jurassic Park?

Check it out again:

The two tech guys talk about a buyer somewhere in Costa Rica, and he says that it's for a ‘startup'. The fictional island where Jurassic Park takes place is Isla Nublar, which is said to be close to Costa Rica, and what's more, this ‘startup' company which needs a dragon could very well be some kind of, I don't know—dinosaur park. In the original film, the park hasn't even opened yet, meaning it was also just ‘starting up.'

What's also great about the reference is that it links Westworld and Jurassic to author Michael Crichton. Crichton had actually written both books that were source materials for both franchises, so it's fun to have this bit of reference in Westworld. At some point, you have to wonder what Crichton has against parks that he keeps making them death traps for tourists.

Seeing that the Game of Thrones reference came out of nowhere, I'm curious what else we have in store for this season of Westworld. We already saw The Raj, Shogunworld, and Warworld; the possibilities are endless now that we know that fantasy can actually factor into this park as well. I'd love to see a group of rich nerds just LARPing around a Westerosworld at some point.

Catch Westworld on HBO every Sunday night.
